rewrite this title Pixel Camera app update hints at dual-screen capture mode for Pixel Fold

What you need to know

  • A teardown of the updated Pixel Camera app APK revealed references to a dual-camera mode feature for the Pixel Fold.
  • The potential feature would show a preview of the viewfinder to someone on the other side of the camera.
  • The outer display can be used to take selfies currently, but the new feature would mark the first time the camera app could use both displays at once.

Folding phones are great because they have two screens, but not all of them let you use both screens at once. If you want to use the big inner screen, the outside screen won’t be active, and the reverse is also true. In fact, there’s only one Google Pixel Fold feature that lets you use both displays simultaneously, and that’s the Google Translate dual-screen interpreter mode.

But the Pixel Fold might be getting a new way to snap photos that utilizes both the inner and outer screens. This is according to some lines of code spotted by Android Authority in the latest update to the Pixel Camera app. The references were found in version 9.2.113.585804376.14 of Pixel Camera, which is the newest version of the app.
